What is Reflexology?

What is Reflexology… Reflexology is a natural complementary therapy. This non-invasive treatment is deeply relaxing and can help reduce stress and benefit many other medical conditions.

There are thousands of nerve endings in the feet, known as ‘reflexes’ which are linked to various parts of the body via the nervous system. The theory behind Reflexology aims to stimulate these reflex points, sending a message to the corresponding body part to encourage homeostasis (a natural balance within the body) allowing it to function more effectively.

During a Reflexology treatment firm pressure is applied to the reflexes in the feet using the fingers and thumbs to stimulate these nerve endings. This helps the therapist identify and treat any problem areas within the body, and work these areas on the feet accordingly, tailoring the treatment to that individual.

The body has an amazing way of repairing itself, but sometimes it is put under increased pressure during stress and illness. Reflexology doesn’t just aim to treat one problem or condition it helps to treat the person as a whole. Reflexology treats the entire foot, and as the body systems are mapped out on the feet the entire body will also benefit from this treatment.

Reflexology does not claim to heal or diagnose medical conditions and should never replace conventional medicine or advice from your GP; however, it can help to encourage the body’s own natural healing process. It can also help:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Relieve headaches and migraines
  • Sleep disorders
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fertility issues and during pregnancy
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Poor circulation
