What is Massage?

What is Massage… Massage is a natural therapy which uses a variety of techniques to help relieve pain, relax or stimulate muscles. We naturally touch areas to help soothe aches and pains; massage is an extension of this natural instinct.

Massage is a relaxing treatment and helps reduce stress and tension. It improves circulation by encouraging the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the body tissues and also helps the elimination of waste through the lymphatic system. It can also help relax stiff joints and improve flexibility, and muscle tone.

During a massage treatment the therapist will knead the skin, muscles and connective tissues within the body using a variety of techniques, which vary depending on the area treated and the needs of the client. Some people may request a massage for an overall relaxing experience not targeting any specific area of the body, and others may have specific pain or tension that needs treatment. Whatever your reason for a treatment, it will have a positive effect on the mind and body.

Massage does not claim to heal or diagnose medical conditions and should never replace conventional medicine or advice from your GP; however, it can help to encourage the body’s own natural healing process. It can also help:

  • Improve posture
  • Relieve back pain and headaches
  • Boost the immune system
  • Release Endorphins ‘feel good’ hormone
  • Reduce anxiety and stress
  • Help the digestive system
  • Relax the mind and body
  • …and much more!
